Both classes count towards the Leadership Certificate. The Foundations class will include class sessions with European leaders in technology and business.

Plans for the leadership class and GTL include two leadership hiking challenges in the Vosges Mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany. The hikes will be administered by ORGT and LEAD. Read on for more information or visit http://www.crc.gatech.edu/orgt/

Trek Germany's "Black Forest"/Schwarzwald
with Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech (ORGT)

BlackforestWhere: Germany's Schwarzwald
When: May 23rd-May 26th - Leaving in the evening after classes and returning in the late afternoon.
What: We have done the logistics; you come for the adventure!

Join ORGT and fellow GT students for a once in a lifetime chance to trek Germany's /world famous/ Black Forest! It is important that participants are in good physical condition. We are still in the process of selecting specific sections of trail, but are planning to hike approximately 14 miles the first hiking day and up to 18 miles the second hiking day. The largest elevation gain is expected to be about 1000 ft the first day to 2000 the second; up and down will be the norm.

We will have luggage transport. All you need are solid hiking boots with good ankle support, good physical condition, appropriate clothing, and a day pack. Along the trail we will have the opportunity to learn about local culture, customs, flora, fauna, black forest cake, and more from our local guide. We will not have a lot of "off trail" time. But if you are worried about study time remember we are driving, so you have built in time to and from the trail as well as in the evenings after dinner. If you are concerned about your physical fitness, we recommend that you meet with your doctor to get his/her approval.

This trip will be a blast and will prove to be a highlight of your summer program at Lorraine!! For those of you planning other treks in Europe, use this trip will help to prepare you. We can take 8 students, and sign ups are first come first serve. Beginner hikers are welcome and encouraged. Sign up by contacting Leigh Jackson-Magennis at leigh.jackson@crc.gatech.edu, filling out paperwork, and paying a /non- refundable/ $150.00 deposit.

NOTE: Full payment will be due prior to trip.
